Time, time, time....

Dear reader,
How many times do we say, "I don't have the time"? I say it a lot when talking about things that I know I should be doing, but just can't get motivated to do them. This includes cleaning house, exercising, reading my scriptures, etc. Last week after church, the DH came home raving about the lesson that the young men had received about time and how we waste time. So, I decided to do the same experiment that they did and see how much time in the day I had left after doing all the things that I do. So, here goes nothing (yes, I'm checking my math)

24 hours in the day (I'm using 6 a.m. to 6 a.m.)
- 8 hours of sleep
________________
16
- 7.5 hours of work
_______________
8.5
- 1.0 hour of travel to and from the place of employment
_______________
7.5
- .5 shower time ( I'm being generous)
_______________
7.0
-1.5 hours washing dishes prior to cooking and cooking dinner
_______________
5.5
-1.0 hour of helping with homework or schoolwork, helping kids study for tests
_______________
4.5 hours

4.5 hours! That is what is left on a "normal" day for me to do something productive. What do I do during that time you ask? I'm asking myself the same thing and although I know that I'm reading or watching tv a little bit, I don't think it's 4.5 hours worth. This is a wake up call for me, I can be accomplishing so much! This means that I DO have time to take a walk around the neighborhood, I DO have time to read scriptures with my family, I DO have time to do my visiting teaching, I DO have time to clean my house (UGH!).

Readers, I know that I'm not going to be productive that left over 4.5 hours of the day(because I know deep in my soul that I'm not the most productive of people), BUT, I can try to take up some of that time doing what I know I should be doing and not lollygagging.

Off to do something productive....

Peace and love y'all!

Heals to you, SCChesleys!(as say like in my country) Excuse for my english, the last time i used it in schooltime about 15 years ago.

Oh, i'm not one, who ask ownself about time using! Some years ago I estimated on paper how much time i give to definit "jobs" during the year summary. It "call" me that the greatest accounts of time we give to our ussial "jobs". But absolutly free time we have not so much. Reading your post about time and whriting a comment, i have get one interesting thing in my head - that my own freedom is not in my free time (not in how i use it) it is in my "free head".

I agree on the fact that we need to be careful with the spare time we get and use it well, but is it really the time to be productive? Aren't you productive at work or when cooking or... I find that the secret is to be in the moment. Don't just deduct time you spend cooking or with the kids but enjoy it!
(I stole that thought from many others before me. Eckhard Tolle is just one name that comes to mind).
